The head coach is behind the catcher at home plate. The head coach throws a foul ball in the direction of first base, third base, or the middle. The infielders visualize home plate as being divided into three areas: 1 , M, 3. If the foul ball goes to the third base side, behind or in front of home plate, the infielders call &quot;up 3&quot;, which lets the catcher know to turn to the third base side. It's the responsibility of the defensive player on the foul ball side to call the play.
